Who Will Script the Fight for My Rights Now?

I had suspicions, Gentle Reader, due to delays, and vast rumors, but never once did I believe that my suspicions could come true.

But they have. Joss Whedon is no longer writing the Wonder Woman movie.

You are well aware by now my love for All Things Whedon, and I feel that he is one of the few writers in production today who writes a great strong, supernatural woman. It's a hard character to write, certainly, and Mr. Whedon always has been, for This Humble Author, at least, quite Up To The Task.

But what now? IMDB has had a 2007 release date for the Wonder Woman movie up for years, and we're all Pretty Sure that's never going to happen. Probably not next year, either.

I can't help but feel that this is just yet another brick in the long, delayed wall of Wonder Woman Pop Culture. The movie unscripted and delayed, the comic book constantly pushed back and shuffled from writer to writer since Crisis, what next for the Amazon Princess? Why can't she have the consistency she deserves?

Why can't we see the Wonder we've waited so long to see?

Hey, Loren, I'll be happy to have a WW movie by the time I'm 60, given it's too late for me to see one by the time I turn 50. ;)

And a woman would be nice. Maybe Jodi Picoult could write it, provided we like her arc in the comic. But who should direct?

One can only hope that, since the delays were caused mainly by creative differences with Whedon, that they will pick someone who is on the same wavelength, and things will pick up from here.

I know. Too optimistic.

But honestly, though, the thing that would make me happiest in superhero-media would be the release of Season One of the Adam West Batman Series. The fact that I have all three seasons of my Linda Carter DVDs and not a single Adam West makes it hard for me to be too sad about the slow pace of Wonder Woman media ventures.

I'm of the opinion that if it's not meant to be, don't rush it. And by that I mean, if it's not destined to be a kick ass movie, ove it off the schedule until the script and team is in place to make sure it is. Daredevil or Elektra anyone?

Hi Loren,
Yeah, I know what you mean. I love Joss, although I have to admit that I wasn't necessarily heartbroken to hear that he left the project. BUT, as I mentioned on my blog, I don't want to be 50 before I see the star spangled heroine on the big screen.

:( I was, and still am, devastated. But again, I don't want to wait forever, either, so maybe this is a good thing?

Mark Engblom brought up a novel concept on my blog, though -- um, why not a woman to head up Wonder Woman? Novel, huh?

Hm. True, but who would we trust with the Amazon Princess? I know Joss can turn out a great film--so can Sofia Coppola, Bryan Singer, Christopher Nolan. I guess I'm worried less about the writing than the vision and directing???
I think it's a thing that maybe should go to an unknown. That's why I'm not totally scared about the script rumors floating about.
Ciao,
Amy

Touche, Shelly!

That's exactly my concern! See my response to Loren. I know Joss can write and direct; that's why I trusted him so.

A bit, yes, but not overly so! I think I just want to see commitment to WW across the board.

Very true! Although I feel as if I get my Adam West with Family Guy.

Hi Mr. Fanboy,
Welcome back! It's been far too long, Friend!

I'm of the opinion that if it's not meant to be, don't rush it. And by that I mean, if it's not destined to be a kick ass movie, ove it off the schedule until the script and team is in place to make sure it is. Daredevil or Elektra anyone?

True, true. And X-Men 3. And Fantastic Four. And...
